Combine Java’s collection of mighty volcanoes and stunning landscapes with Bali's culture and UNESCO heritage site of rice fields. Join me on an amazing trip to experience the incredible contrasts and magical scenery of Indonesia. Get to the heart of Indonesian life by travelling locally!
We meet up in the second largest Indonesian city of Surabaya. We will be picked up and comfortably transported to to Mount Bromo with a stop at a majestic waterfall along the way. Early morning our jeep will bring us to the view points of at Mount Bromo to photograph the stars over moonlike landscape. We move on to Kawah Ijen to view the blue flames or another breath taking sunrise. We will have an adventurous ride to the beaches of Sukamade to watch turtles laying eggs and release baby turtles. Then we cross over to Bali where our adventure continues with more landscapes and awakening our visual senses to the Balinese culture.
Independent travelling in a small group of up to seven participants. A great way to bond with other like-minded travel travellers!
The photography workshop tour is open to photographers and non-photographers.

The only photography workshop tour that gives you full control and flexibility by providing the great workshops, and tours which include transport and like-minded photography travel pals. You just book your flights to get there and choose the package option that suits you.
Don't forget, you are also on holidays and may want some time for yourself. Apart from the workshops where we work and travel together, there is sufficient rest & recreation time included for your own thing. Or if you prefer, hang out with me for meals, drinks and company. Whatever you decide, is cool for me! The tour is designed to end in Bali where you can choose to extend your stay or travel further with your new friends and photography skills.
The Java - Bali photography workshop tour requires us to wake up rather early (oh god....!) and 2 sleepless nights. This is when we have the best light and less crowd. However, don't forget that you can always take a siesta during the day!
Needless to say, you'll get better deals for summer the earlier you book your flights and hotels.

TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 01. 14th July. Sun. SurabayaList Item 1
6pm. Meet up for welcome drink, tour briefing and get to meet fellow photographers.
Optional group dinner.

DAY 02. 15th July. Mon. Surabaya to BromoList Item 2
We depart after breakfast to Mount Bromo.
On the way we will stop at a majestic waterfall.
We will vist the Bromo area during afternoon till just beofre sunset before returning back to the hotel for dinner and rest.

DAY 03. 16th July. Tue. Bromo to Kawah IjenList Item 3
At 3am we head out to the plateau. In darkness, admire the stars and maybe with a bit of luck, The Milky Way.
We will proceed to a viewpoint to photograph the star trails and the iconic sunrise over Mount Bromo. Then back to your hotel for breakfast.
We leave for Banyunwangi. Group dinner is optional.

DAY 04. 17th July. Wed. Kawah Ijen and Sukamade
We leave at around 1am to hike up Kawah Ijen to view the blueflames or sunrise.
We will be abck at the hotel around 9am for breakfast and we leave for Sukamade at 10.30am.
Activites planned at Sukamade are : Sunset photography and watching turtles laying eggs.

DAY 05. 18th July. Thu. SukamadeList Item 4
Early morning release of baby turtles on the beach.
Breakfast and your free day to rest and recuperate from the last 2 sleepless nights!
We also take this day to review our photos.

DAY 06. 19th July. Fri. Sukamade to Bali.
After a tiring, adventurous exploration of East Java and a day of rest, we head off to Bali. We arrive in Pemuteren in the afternoon.

DAY 07. 20th July. Sat. Beach, Bali
You have an option to use this as a day of rest or plan your own (possibly a group activity). Snorkelling or a short hike in the natural reserve to observe wild life.
We can also plan a walk up a nearby hill to enjoy the sunset with views over Java and North Bali.

DAY 08. 21st July. Sun. Jatiwileh
We leave Pemuteren for Jatiwileh in the morning stopping at the largest Buddhist temple along the way and stopping for lunch along the way overlooking the beautiful scenery. If we are lucky, we might get to see a religious ceremony ina ction.
Sunset photography workshop. Group dinner is optional.

DAY 09. 22nd July. Mon. Jatiwileh & surrounding areas
Morning sunrise shoot at Bedugul and a boat trip. We spend the afternoon visiting an amazing waterfall 40minutes away or just relaxing at your hotel balcony overlokking the ricefields of Jatiwileh.
We'll use the quiet evening to review your images. Group dinner is optional.

DAY 10. 23rd July. Tue. Jatiwileh & Ubud
An early morning sunrise walk and photoshoot. After the walk you have breakfast and we leave Jatiwileh for our last stop - Ubud.

DAY 11. 24th July. Wed. Ubud
Morning sunrise shoot Tengalanglang rice fields followed by a visit coffee plantation. We can explore even further the surrounding areas with a visit to the water palace or return back to Ubud and do a workshop on street photography.
Group dinner is optional.

DAY 12. 25th July. Thu. Ubud
Morning sunrise shoot and walk through Ubud countryside. You can also immerse yourself into Balinese life and culture by visiting a small village as an option. We can organise a last review of your photos as well.
Optional end of workshop dinner.

Morning breakfast. Check out and end of workshop.

Tour participant's profile
- You are a free independent traveller with a lust for adventure and photography. You are capable of making your own accommodation arrangements at each location. Everything else is taken care of. Relax and enjoy yourself.
- Bummer..... You should have some basic knowledge about photography, understand exposure and handling your camera to fully benefit from this workshop.
- Another one....Be willing to wake up at unearthly hours and 2 sleepless nights as this is where the action is. Photography is more important than sleep! Remember, you have the day to take a siesta and at the end of the tour you can extend your stay and wake up at your leisure.
- The last.... Be reasonably fit as it involves walking and light treks. The challenging part is at Kawah Ijen which involves a 90 minute steep hike (those who are fit) - 150 minutes (those taking a leisurely pace). You can also opt out of this and sleep late!
- You share my core values of interacting with the local people & culture, sensitive about their way of doing things, believe in social responsibility and supporting the local economy.
- You are easy going, enjoy meeting people and making new friends. We are a small group of up to 7 photographers and I want everyone to have an a wonderful time with me. Be zen about life and accept the unexpected as part and parcel of having memorable moments!

I believe in transparency and accessibility to my workshops and tours. Each of us have personal budgets, different comfort expectations but a common goal of travel photography and great images. Over 13 days, through the workshops and tours, we will explore many photography techniques, improve your photography skills along the way while working together.
Apart from the personal attention you'll be receiving, you will have your own free time. There will be opportunities as well to share costs with fellow photographers to do other activities not included (optional excursions).
The most important components of the tour are already included.
